Wednesday, March 6, 2013's been awhile...'s been awhile. Yes I am still alive. No I haven't stopped working out. Been eating a little less desirable? Maybe. Giving up on losing weight? Definitely not. Gained weight? Nope, in fact I actually lost a few lb's. Just took a little bit of a break from writing and got busy with life. Our household had a hard couple of months with sickness, weather, and Daddy going back to working nights. We got into a good routine while he was on days and it was much easier to get to the gym and still get things done on the home front too. (And again...yes I know that this may sound like an excuse...but until you have lived have no idea.)

Shelby going back to nights requires running to the house, getting changed, sometimes feeding Lenae before dropping her off with my parents(when I don't...they feed her. Don't worry :)), taking her over to their house, going to the gym, and spending 30 minutes afterwards pleading with her to leave my parents house to go home. My child is the one who doesn't cry when I drop her off...she cries when I pick her up. I like to think it's only because I'm with her all day everyday. Just as much as I need that break...she does too!. Then finally getting her home, getting a bath, engaging in World War 3 to brush her hair, and then comes the marathon bedtime standoff. After that? It's nearly 10:30 and usually I haven't even gotten a chance to look for something for dinner. So getting adjusted back to that takes some time...and now that we are finally adjusting to it...guess who goes back to days soon?  That's the life we signed up for though. Ugh.

Anyways...I finished the Fitathlon last week. I know I had the goal to finish it within 2 weeks...but that totally didn't happen. It didn't help that I fell deathly ill that second week along with Lenae(may be exaggerating just a tad). The point is...I finished what I started and actually learned something very valuable. Now hang on to your seats while I tell you my new found secret...ready for it??

Swimming. Swimming is amazing for weight loss. Seriously. I have found my new THING. Who woulda thunk it? Okay...okay...I knew millions of people already do it and know that it's awesome for your health. But me? I thought it was some form of punishment that is inflicted on me for choosing to let myself get to this point and to squeeze into one of those stupid little spandex thingy ma bobs. In turn, I found out that it really is a beneficial way to shed pounds and tone up. Common sense should have told me that the resistance from the water and using all sorts of different muscles would aid in that result. I just couldn't get past the attire to do it in. I sucked it in the suit and into the pool and couldn't be happier that I did. Swimming those 84 laps aided in the loss of 6 pounds and a quickly firming tummy. I was super impressed that after only 4 times of going I was able to complete those 84 laps. Not too shabby for someone who can't remember the last time that I actually did swim. You best believe that I will now be adding this new found way of cardio into my routine.

Speaking of running...after taking a couple of weeks off to finish the biking and swimming portions of the challenge, I strapped on my Brooks and hit the treadmill Monday night. Easing back into it, but wanting to know what my body would be comfortable doing, I walked a 1/4 of a mile for warm up, ran a mile, walked 1/4, ran 3/4, walked 1/4, ran 1/2, and then walked 1/4. So all in all ran 2 1/4 miles and walked a mile. Wasn't sore a bit yesterday or today so I think the ole legs took it quite well. Gonna try for 2 miles straight and then a mile after that tonight. Gotta train for those upcoming 5k's and really gonna pick up the training for the 13.1. That's still my big goal right now.

Hope everyone is still striving towards their health goals and fitness ventures! I am...I just slowed a wee tiny bit to let life catch up to me. Have a new found energy to dive back into it hard and fast. After all...gotta start shedding these pounds and quick. Lenae's getting older and I keep seeing all of these cute babies being born.... :)
I mean how does knowing that we can produce something this flipping adorable not give me baby fever? It's definitely making me forget the pain and shots to have her...but not enough to not be healthy first!

Here's a few gems from the last couple of months

Nae and her Daddy. (I feel like she's saying "Come try me. See who my daddy is?")

 Love these nights

We celebrated her 2nd birthday by going to Wichita to see Sesame Street Live and staying in a hotel with a swimming pool. She had a blast!

This is a normal scene...our living room, kitchen, and her room double as a race track(we are a Nascar household and she LOVES to race.)

Wednesday Weigh In

Happy Wednesday! Linking up with Erin and Alex again. It's that time again to step on that scale and hope for a lower number than the week before! All the hard work you put in over the week leading up to it hopefully has an impact on that number...and you have something to show for it! I did much better in the eating department(still by no means perfect), and worked out a LOT more. It showed as the scale is down over a pound!

I think this is somewhat in part to starting the Fitathlon this past week. Sunday alone I logged 5.2 miles on the treadmill(4.5 of which I ran), and then instantly onto the stationary bike and did 7 miles. I had all intentions of going out the past 2 nights but life happens and sometimes you have to be there for other people. So I'm not beating myself up about not going and know that I hopefully will be back out there tonight. I want to at least get 15 miles on the bike logged and maybe a mile or 2 on the treadmill. We shall see though!

In unrelated not so little girl has decided to full blown into potty training this week. So most of my days and nights are spent in the bathroom.(Another reason it's been hard to get to the gym...I know this really sounds like an excuse..but I would rather take time out of working out to save some money on diapers and get this done! Daddy isn't the most comfortable with potty it falls on me!) She is doing AMAZING. In the past couple of months she's maybe gone a handful of times and didn't show a whole lot of interest, and I didn't want to push her. When her friend here at daycare started training...she just all of a sudden was ready to start. The first morning was great...she stayed dry. The afternoon was a bust though because she didn't get a great nap in and was grumpy. Yesterday she stayed dry all morning and all afternoon. We had a little accident after supper and then it was time for bed. She has done really really well again this fingers crossed she'll be completely trained by her birthday at the end of February! I'm really surprised at how well she's taken on to it...and so proud! She walks around all day saying "I so prouda you!!" She really knows how to work this mommy's heart....

Hope everyone else had a great week and successful weigh ins!!

2012 in review...and Progress Pictures!

When I look back on 2012, I can honestly look back with a sense of accomplishment. I achieved many different goals that I set for myself about a quarter way into the year. Shortly after Lenae turned 1 and seeing myself in so many horrible pictures, I'd had enough. Then came a brief hospital stay because of the recurring blood pressure issues and I'd REALLY had enough. Mom and I started our adventure with the 1 goal of running a 5K by the end of the fall. I never expected what that would spark in myself to go above and beyond that one goal. Here are some highlights to run down the year.

2012 in review:

  • Started the C25K at the end of April. Coughed, gagged, and suffered my way through 60 seconds of running. I wanted to quit. I HATED running.
  • Mid May we were running 3 minutes at a time, with a 90 second walk in between. This was taking place on the back dirt roads. And then it started to get HOT.
  • In June I purchased a 6 month membership to the gym to get out of the heat. This was a BIG leap on my part as I always gave up after a month of working out.
  • June 21, 2012. My mom and I ran a mile, non stop. It was one of the most perfect days, ever.
  • In July I put a serious dent in my consumption of caffeinated beverages. I still can't find it in me to get rid of my 1 a day. I was also up in the double digits of pounds lost. Woot Woot!
  • I ran 3 miles in a row at the end of July. That was huge. I broke down a major goal I had set for myself.
  • September 30, 2012. Goal Met. 5K completed 39 minutes and 51 seconds.
  • October 6, 2012 I ran the Color Run with my aunt, cousin, sister, and mom. It's a MUST. Even if you're not a runner. Seriously.
  • October 13, 2012 we completed our third and final 5K for the year. It was another variation of the Color Run and we ran it with 2 of my good friends. It was tough and I found out how much I despise hills.
  • I completed an entire month of 30 Day Shred and had to date lost 28 lbs.
  • In November I hit ONDERland and was in the 30's of lbs lost
  • December was plagued with sickness and it's all a blur. :) But I did accomplish taking a full minute off of my mile!!
Goals for 2013
  • Hit my Goal weight. Hopefully by Octoberish.
  • Run a Half Marathon----Want that 13.1 sticker!!!
  • Wear a swimsuit and not feel uncomfortable. T-5 months. Ugh.
  • Improve my swimming skills...and quick. Fitathlon here I come!
  • and just simply get out and LIVE more.
And here's what I've been saying is coming...the Progress Pictures...

There you have it! From the beginning to so far. That is 40 lbs that I am glad to be rid of. 40 lbs of sweat, tears, and hard work. Here's what 40 lbs of Chicken looks like

So basically that is what I was carrying around...yuck.

Finally here's a couple pictures of Lenae out in the snow last night...just because they are too cute.

We got about 7.5 inches of snow the other day and she LOVES it. She also got some "pwetty awetsome" princess boots that light up. She won't ever let me take them off.
See them? :)

Weigh In Wednesday Link up...and some other good news!!

I'm "linking up" with Erin and Alex today to do my Weigh In Wednesday. Erin is one of my "blog" friends that I met on the Fit Camp site. We are all trying to encourage each other through this weight loss, and honestly this is the only way, that I have found in my weight struggle, that has worked! Not a HUGE loss to report, but hey...a loss is a loss is a loss...right??

The good news?? This puts me at 40 POUNDS LOST.  Yep. That's where I'm at. Although I know that it could be more. Don't get me wrong...I am MORE than excited about this...but am a little bummed out with myself about the fact that I know I have still not been on my best game about eating right. I have been working out and running still, but need to get my rear in gear and get my "groove" back with the good food. I haven't been eating terrible. I am still watching my portions and not shoving down cheeseburgers and shakes, but definitely not eating my protein and veggies. This week WILL be better. This week WILL be better. If you live in my town and are reading have permission to give me a good swift kick in the butt if you see me eating anything I shouldn't be.

Ugh...I wish dieting wasn't such a struggle. Some more good news...I took my measurements for the first time in awhile last night and was pleasantly surprised at those results. So far, since starting this journey back in April/May-ish, I have lost a total of 7 inches off of my waist/hip area and 4 inches off each thigh. I could definitely tell that when I slip on a pair of jeans...but seeing it in numbers was awesome.

So here's to a week of living in paranoia that someone will see me eating crap and kick me! Sometimes that is enough to make me knock it off. I also have MAJOR plans to rock it out in the gym the next couple of weeks. I have a goal to finish the Fitathlon in under 3 weeks. I hope to get out there around 4-5 times a week and each time do 3 miles running/walking, bike around 8-10 miles, and swim anywhere from 10-12 laps. Now obviously I might be extremely tired and doing all three every time would take up several hours, so each time I will do the running/walking, but alternate the biking and swimming. But like everyone knows in the journey of weight loss, the failure to plan out said goals, is likely to set you up for failure. That's why I am setting up this plan! Hopefully my husband, sister, and parents can bear with me to reach this goal..and pitch in extra with my daughter. :)

Side note...I have taken progression pictures, but am having some difficulty finding my camera cord to upload them. It was a overdue Christmas Miracle that my phone let me take my weigh in picture today as the camera has decided its had about enough of me taking constant pictures. So when I find the cord...the progression will be posted :) Have a great rest of the week!
